Trip to İzmir City Center

Izmir, one of the cities with the most beautiful cultural values in Turkey, has hosted many civilizations from past to present. It contains many cultural traces. We visited the historical and cultural places of Izmir throughout the day.

Agora

Smyrna Agora, located in the Namazgah district of Izmir, belongs to the Roman period, although it was built in the Hellenistic period. Smyrna Agora was a state rather than a commercial agora. Recent excavations have revealed that the Agora of Smyrna is the largest known in the world.

Kemeraltı Bazaar

It is a historical bazaar that covers the area from Mezarlıkbaşı to Konak Square. In the past, the bazaar was partially vaulted, covered with tiles and had the appearance of a covered bazaar with its side streets. Kemeraltı Bazaar is the most important shopping center of İzmir today as it was in the past. It is possible to find leather products suitable for all tastes and budgets, as well as all kinds of traditional Turkish handicrafts such as ceramics, wooden products, carpets and kilims, in this bazaar consisting of 15,000 large and small shops.

Clock Tower and Konak Mosque

It was built by Said Pasha on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdülhamit's accession to the throne in 1901. The elegant clock tower, known as the symbol of the city, adorns Konak square like a pearl.

İzmir Archeology Museum

At the entrance (middle floor) of the three-storey building, marble works such as sculptures, busts and portraits from the Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods are exhibited. On the upper floor, the finds unearthed during the excavations in Izmir and its surroundings are exhibited. In the treasury hall on the same floor, ornaments made of gold, silver and precious stones, glass objects and coins are exhibited.

Urla

The Klazomenai olive oil workshop, the oldest known olive oil workshop in Anatolia, dates back to the 6th century BC. In the workshop, the methods used to extract olive oil were explained by the authorized person. We learned about the physics, chemistry and mathematics used in the workshop.
